Hidmona is a family-owned Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurant located near the center of Copenhagen's Nørrebro district. Opened in 2008, it has become a staple in the community, offering authentic cuisine from the Horn of Africa in a cozy and casual setting.

The restaurant's specialty is traditional injera flatbread served with flavorful meat, chicken, lentil and vegetable stews known as wats. Customers eat family-style, tearing off pieces of the spongy injera to grab bites of the different wats - a fun, communal dining experience. Hidmona also has several vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

While the dining room is small with just a few tables, the friendly staff and smell of spices give it a warm, welcoming vibe. Many regulars come for the combination of delicious comfort food and homey atmosphere that keeps them coming back. It's a true local gem in a diverse, dynamic neighborhood.

Why Choose Hidmona

There are many reasons to choose Hidmona for a comforting meal in Copenhagen. The cuisine is full of deep, complex flavors you won't find elsewhere in Denmark. And unlike other African restaurants in the city, Hidmona offers traditional sharing platters and authentic injera bread.

You can expect large portions of wats and vegetable sides - easily enough to share between 2-4 people. Trying a bit of everything is part of the fun. They also cater well to vegetarians and vegans with meatless dishes made from legumes and greens.

Beyond the food, the welcoming service and cozy atmosphere enhance the whole dining experience. The staff makes you feel right at home while introducing the cuisine of their homeland. It's affordable too - most combination platters cost around 125 DKK per person. For a truly unique and tasty meal, look no further than this Nørrebro staple.

Reviews

We loved this place! Great food, really delicious, sufficient quantity and the whole place felt cosy and really welcoming. The person taking care of us was really kind, efficient and well mannered.

Been there a few times now. Plenty of food, great value for money and above all the service is SUPER nice.

Very delicious food. Did enjoy the different spices, various amounts of meat and tasteful vegetables. Clearly deserving 5 stars. Highly recommend this place.

Nothing special, cheap meat :(. - Service was very slow. We waited 50 mins for our order - Meat was hard to chew, stiff.

The food here was ok. I have had better Ethiopian food elsewhere. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to time here again. I had no real complain with the food.

Great place to try african food in Copenhagen. Waiters are really nice there. Will definitely try it the next time in town
